I normally reserve this honor for an individual who has been a top performer for the entire school year. This year I have chosen to not do that. Instead, the Top Cougar for the 2002-2003 school year goes to Sheena Gulliver.
During the first semester, Sheena did just enough to keep her grade in the "C" range. Much of the time she was performing below that. In addition, she was finding herself in trouble from time to time. Numerous times I spoke with Sheena about her potential. I stressed that she had a great deal more to offer if she would stay out of trouble and begin applying herself in class. I wanted her to know that the only person holding her back was herself and the only person who could change this was herself. |

Along came second semester. Sheena decided to make a big change and oh what a change she made. She began turning in every assignment on time. She began scoring among the best students in her class on exams. She eventually became the top student in my fourth period math class and eventually would become the top student overall. She ended the year as the top student on the "Overall Fab Five" (highest academic student in all of my math classes) with a 97.4% A++. I am very proud of Sheena for having the courage to make this positive change in herself. If Sheena continues to be her own best self in high school and beyond, I predict you will see her accomplish great things in the future. Mike Hunziker Here's what other teachers had to say about Sheena:
"Sheena has been a conscientious student, getting in her work and participating in class discussions. She has also been an awesome TA. She is responsible and takes initiative to get things done. She has been indispensable to me. I also coached Sheena in soccer. She excelled in her abilities and effort." Cindi Barton |
